CHESS MACHINE SHOP
AFTER-HOURS USAGE POLICY
Machine shop hours are 7:30AM-4:00PM Monday-Thursday, 7:30AM-3:00PM Friday.
The after-hours usage policy is in effect outside of the normal machine shop hours shown above. This policy will be followed all day on Saturday, Sunday, holidays, and any time the machinists are not in the shop.
The machine shop door will be locked when the shop staff leaves for the day. Only individuals who have been approved to work in the shop after hours may obtain the key to unlock the door and work in the shop. A list of approved individuals will be posted near the machine shop if you are not on the list, do not work in the shop after hours. See John Kopsa for training and approval for access to the shop after hours.
The 2 person rule must be followed after hours:
Only use powered machines in the shop if a 2nd person is in close proximity. This 2nd person should be near enough to hear what is going on in the shop and be ready to help/seek help in an emergency. The 2nd person should be familiar with the machine being operated, know how to use the kill switch, and know the location of the fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and telephone. Individuals acting as a 2nd person should be over the age of 18.
A sign-in sheet will be posted on the machine shop door. If you enter the shop after hours, fill out the sign-in sheet with the date, your name, 2nd persons name, machine(s) used, time in and time out.
If you need assistance or have a question about work being done in the shop, you may call Dana Richter (607-744-2010) or the CHESS On-Call.
If a situation arises after hours in which an individual who is not approved to work in the shop needs to use the shop and cannot wait until normal machine shop hours, the individual should contact the CHESS Operator. If there is not a CHESS Operator on duty (e.g., CHESS is not running), and the work needs to be completed immediately, contact Dana Richter.
