Isolating non-CLASSE managed personal devices
In an effort to improve the security of critical infrastructure services, we will gradually be isolating non-CLASSE-managed devices on the LNS Protected network from the rest of the CLASSE networks. Affected devices include personal laptops and smartphones, as well as some legacy desktops. After being isolated, these devices will need to connect to the
CLASSE VPN to access internal resources such as printing and samba. Please submit a
ServiceRequest if you have any questions or concerns.
Upgrade of ACC Build System to Scientific Linux 7 (SL7) - 27-Sep-2018
The Accelerator (ACC) Build System will be upgraded to SL7 on 27-Sep-2018. This means that all ACC Release builds, made after 27-Sep-2018, will only run on CLASSE Linux systems running SL7. As well, this applies to ACC packages, such as CERN ROOT.
REMINDER: Please schedule your upgrade to SL7
If you still have a CLASSE Linux workstation running SL6, please send email to
service-classe@cornell.edu to schedule an upgrade. We would like to complete the transition by the end of September.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
