CHESS Firewall Upgrade: Tuesday, 15-Oct-2019 @ 9:00 AM
On Tuesday, 15-Oct-2019, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, we will be upgrading the internal CHESS firewall for the PLC networks. We do not anticipate widespread network disruptions, although localized effects might be seen on the CHESS networks. Network status will be announced at
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L@cornell.edu.
macOS Catalina and 32-Bit Software
On 07-Oct-2019, Apple released the newest major version of macOS, known as Catalina (10.15). One major change in Catalina is that 32-bit software is no longer supported; any 32-bit applications must be upgraded to 64-bit versions. For this reason, we will
not be upgrading CLASSE-managed Macs to macOS Catalina until this issue is better understood. For more information on identifying 32-bit software, please see
https://www.macworld.com/article/3393161/how-to-find-out-if-your-mac-software-is-32-or-64-bit.html.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
