Cornell Ending Support for Symantec Antivirus on Oct. 21
If you have downloaded Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) from Cornell for home or personal use, please be aware that you will no longer receive updates after October 21, 2016. In particular, after this date, your virus definitions will be stale, which will leave your computer vulnerable to attack. It is recommended that you
uninstall SEP as soon as possible and
transition to a different antivirus program.
Two-Factor Authentication for your Cornell NetID
Because of a sharp rise in Cornell NetID password theft, CIT is urging everyone to enroll in its
Two-Step Login service, which provides additional protection for your NetID using your mobile phone or landline every time you log in. Note that Two-Step Login is only available for Cornell services, not CLASSE services.
CHESS DAQ Rotation
The CHESS DAQ rotation is underway. Once the second tape archive completes later this week, the rotation will occur. At this time, the 2016-1 data will be removed from disk. Data can be kept on disk or restored at any point through an email to
service-classe@cornell.edu.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
