Today's topics:
CLASSE e-mail migration to Office 365 will happen on February 20th.
If you did
not receive a notice about your Exchange mailbox moving to Office 365, please send email to
service-classe@cornell.edu to let us know. Everyone affiliated with CLASSE who uses Cornell's Exchange mail service, whether CHESS, MacCHESS or LEPP, should have received the first of several notices from CIT that their mail accounts will be migrated to Office 365 on February 20th. Everyone has to be moved at the same time in order to minimize disruptions in access to shared mailboxes, calendars and room scheduling.
Use Kronos Basic
Only Payreps are required to use the Kronos Full interface. If you are not a Payrep, we
STRONGLY recommend and urge using Kronos Basic (HTML) to avoid continual notices and issues with accessing Kronos, and to avoid the risk of an untrusted source compromising the confidentiality, integrity and/or availability of your computer.
For instructions on how to use Kronos Basic, see:
http://www.dfa.cornell.edu/cms/payrollservices/services/kronos/upload/kronos-guide-nonexempt-html.pdf
Passwords
To simplify your current access to CLASSE IT resources, we suggest that you:
Choose
2 passwords (one for
CLASSE, one for
CIT) that are easy to remember meet the university's standard for password security; University policy
requires your Cornell NetID password to differ from any of your other passwords.
Change your other Lab accounts to use your CLASSE password:
Examples: CHESS workstation, Replicon, Vault, VMS, (some) ELOG, LEPP login and network, LEPP LNSNTCAD, etc.
For a description of your LEPP computer accounts and password procedures, please see
https://wiki.lepp.cornell.edu/lepp/bin/view/Computing/UserAccountsAndPasswords
If you need assistance, submit a
Service Request or email
service-classe@cornell.edu.
Power outage Wednesday night, January 30th
AS far as we know, all CLASSE computing services have been restored to normal. Possible exception: if the last time you used a computer was
before January 30, you may have to reboot that computer for it to behave as expected. If you are still having any computer related problems after a reboot, please let us know.
New Optoma Projectors in Wilson 301, Wilson 374 and Newman 311
New brighter and quieter projectors have been installed in Wilson 301, Wilson 374 and Newman 311. Also, a projection screen was installed in Wilson 301, and the screen in Newman 311 was replaced. The projector in Newman is going to be moved back about 1 meter (probably this week) so that the projected image will fill the screen more completely.
These new projectors allow your laptop to set the projected image's resolution. Usually the projected image "mirrors" the image on your laptop's display, but you can set your laptop so that the projected image is independent of your primary display. The width of the projected image
will vary with resolution.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
