CLASSE Managed Windows Firefox update to Firefox ESR 24
We are deploying Firefox ESR24. As part of this update, we will also be providing access to a new search engine in the search drop-down menu: Startpage HTTPS. This is a recommended search engine that provides Google results without the "filter bubble" effect known when using Google. A full article on this is here:

Scientific Linux 6 switchover to CLASSE authentication
Starting Tuesday morning, 1/14, all SL6 systems will switch over to CLASSE authentication. This will mean that starting Tuesday morning, you will need to use your CLASSE username and password to login to any SL6 system.
In order to make sure you know your CLASSE username and password, you can try logging in to lnx201.classe.cornell.edu or accessing the following wiki page:

All legacy Linux systems (SL5 and older) will continue to authenticate using LNS / LEPP credentials. In addition, many services (Training database, EDMS, etc.) are still authenticating against LNS. Anytime you are prompted for "CLASSE Username," "CLASSE Credentials," or "CLASSE Authentication," use your CLASSE username and password. Anytime you are prompted for W4restrict, LNS, or LEPP credentials, use your legacy LNS username and passwords. For more information, please see
ClasseAuthentication.
Please see
CLASSESinglePassword for more information on CLASSE passwords, including steps you can take to unify your passwords and ease the ongoing and gradual migration from legacy authentication systems (LEPP, LNS, and CHESS) to CLASSE.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
