FAQ:
My laptop appears to have a variable and frequently unreliable signal in
__ room.
Answer:
Please submit a request to
service-lepp@cornell.edu, asking for a protected subnet cable or hub in the problematic room or area. The Computer Group can't control the installation or use of cordless
telephones and access points in adjacent buildings operating on the same
frequency as our access points, the vagaries of individual laptops wireless clients, or the
sensitivity of laptop wireless adapters. We have made every effort to provide enough strategically placced access points throughout LEPP. However, when all else fails, and/or someone needs interference-free network connectivity- they need to use the wired connection. If you have not done so already, please register your
wired interface using our
LaptopRegistration form.
If you must use a wireless connection, make sure that you have a clear line-of-sight to the nearest Wireless Access Point. The lab's thin plaster-board walls let signals though OK, but densitized concrete walls and metal bookcases attenuate and reflect the radio signal, usually making it unusable.
