GitLab Update: Tuesday, 14-Jan-2025 @ 11:00 AM
On Tuesday, 14-Jan-2024, at 11:00 AM, the
CLASSE GitLab will be unavailable for approximately one hour for a series of updates. Please submit a
ServiceRequest if you have any questions or concerns.
Compute Farm Default OS: AlmaLinux 9
As previously announced, we have changed the default operating system for
CLASSE Compute Farm jobs from Scientific Linux 7 to AlmaLinux 9. If you wish to submit jobs to legacy Scientific Linux 7 nodes after this change (for compatibility with any legacy executables), please use the
"-l os_name=el7" flag in your job submission scripts. Otherwise, any submitted jobs will default to running on AlmaLinux 9 nodes. To see a complete list of AlmaLinux 9 nodes (and the queues on those nodes), please type "qhost -q -l os_name=el9".
Please note that after this change,
JupyterHub will also default to AlmaLinux 9 Farm nodes, which might be incompatible with some dedicated CHESS queues that are still running Scientific Linux 7. If you are responsible for any of these queues, please submit
ServiceRequest to schedule an upgrade to AlmaLinux 9.
CLASSE-Managed Mac Upgrade to macOS Sequoia
Apple officially released the macOS Sequoia (macOS 15) operating system last fall. We have now vetted macOS Sequoia for use on CLASSE-managed Macs, and users may perform this upgrade at their convenience (System Settings -> General -> Software Update). Note that administrator credentials are not required for this upgrade, but you will need to supply your user password. If you are running macOS Monterey or earlier, your operating system
must be upgraded for security reasons. If you have any questions or concerns, please submit a
ServiceRequest.
General network and server maintenance will occur every Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. The CLASSE-IT group will always announce any expected disruptions in our
NewsLetter and via
CLASSE-IT-NEWS-L, but with the size and complexity of our network there is always the potential for something to go wrong. We will do our best to contain all network maintenance and planned outages to Tuesdays from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM.
Unless other arrangements have been made,
CLASSE-managed Windows systems may be updated and rebooted on Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, so please avoid critical or lengthy operations at that time. For more details, please see
SystemExpectations.
